Kelsey,

Thanks for your comment. I tried to email you back, but can't seem to get through. Here's my email, so if you could send me one "off the blog" I can figure out why I'm not able to send via your posted email address: nancy_os@wildblue.net. Glad you made it home OK.

We all definitely know where McPherson's Barn was, didn't we? We couldn't have missed it since it was brought up, on our tour, quite a bit!

You...among others. You're very passionate about your craft and that can be intimidating for the casual traveler. When you show the humaness of the founders, it makes the students realize they are like everyone else with stengths and weakness, talents and flaws.

Kelsey,
I totally agree about your comment re: having fun with history. Heck fire !! They already think we're geeks, so let's have a little less boring and a little more storying (ok,that was bad)....you get it! My kids love the stories, the real people, the kids - that's what they can relate to! I think there's a little realization in that that our own existence isn't meaningless and may some day matter.
Loved it!

I completely agree with your philosophy of getting kids excited about history, Kelsey! If we don't get them to love it early Jonathan and Matt will eventually be out of a job. Seriously, I think the stories hook the little guys and lead to a lifetime love of the subject.

Kelsey,
I'm totally jealous that you have a picture of the bar and grill! It was an interesting day and I always love to find the "real" meaning behind phrases. It's an interesting tie to history for our students also to find out the "history" behind their vernacular.

I agree with you about Ada. She was wonderful and was indeed the "woman" for the job.

Great picture of the bar and grill. Yes, she explained the origin of the "bar and grill" but you're right, she wouldn't let us take a picture of anything in the house. She was less than gracious. Maybe your guy was in such a hurry afterward because he was going to meet her to share his lunch with her. They both sound like they needed something to make them feel better!
